You can learn a lot about how to be a good human being from a dog. For you, that dog is a chapter in the book of your life. For that dog, you are the whole book. Act accordingly.
I was fortunate to come into a relationship with my very first dog as a mid-30s adult. Of course, there are questions about what childhood may have been like if I'd been allowed to have pets but the fact that I had lived, loved and lost much already when Zuma first came along meant I could understand the responsibility, and the power of the relationship. And self-aware enough to observe myself being changed by it. 🙏🏻
For your love of dogs, personality, and ... a little bit of alpinism was one of my biggest drivers to your writing. I still remember a quote that I live by: "A dog taught me how to live..." these guys are saviors, for sure.
The greatest gift I've ever had the opportunity of receiving and likely ever will receive is a dogs love and wisdom. I can only aspire to be as pure and good a creature as a dog. And when they leave this world they take a part of my soul with them. Every time. Maybe that means they are assembling my soul somewhere on the other side with them. They are decisively the best aspects of my life and your words resonate deeply. Thank you for the shared wisdom.
"Maybe that means they are assembling my soul somewhere on the other side with them ..." Yes, this. I could very much support a universe where this is true, and the deep grief of a dog friend's passing might be alleviated too. Although we learn much from the grieving journey, understanding what and how much and why we loved such a being.
Absolutely. The deeper we love, the deeper and more intensely we grieve. And when we are ready to open to the wisdom gained thru grief - it's life changing. Both in the looking back and understanding as well as recognizing what we have in the present. More awakened to the impermanence, more grateful for the time we have together, and more compassion to the suffering and pain of others.
If you're really good, if you really "understood the assignment" of being a human, you get the privilege of coming back as a dog.
Nothing would make my soul happier.

Thank you. Saviors, guides, teachers ... and we are all better at being human for having loved and been loved by our dogs.
Dogs will teach you more about yourself than most others will on this planet. Great post!
This is truth. Thank you.

Wisdom 🙏
Char-Char was such a good and loving and fiercely-protective creature, just like her people.
Beautiful post. I live and swear by the dog.
As I typed above, late to the party but now I too live and swear by them.
Équipe Solitaire zine just arrived and looks beautiful. Nice to have something tangible in this too virtual world. Looking forward to reading it! https://www.marktwight.com/store-MFHja/p/equipe-solitaire-zine
