Looking forward to reading this and looking at your amazing pictures. It’s one thing to survive an epic, it’s another level to take pictures during the epic.

As my old skiing and climbing partner always said, ALL the time; “It’s better to be lucky than good”. I never really thought about that phrase much until I got lucky on a couple ski descents.

I have vivid memories of the letter you sent to me right after coming off the face. I think I still know where it is if you ever need a copy.

Your writing was visceral and in the moment as you had just gotten down, I could virtually tell the story right now.

Sometime in the mid-90s you faxed me the original letter and sadly, over time, the fax faded to illegibility. I just sent you an email.

"It hit hard enough to sweep all of us off our feet. We smashed against each other, all hanging from the single ice screw. Each of our tethers was clipped to a 9/16” sling girth-hitched through its eye. The sling should have broken but it was the lucky one, stitched together with seven bar tacks instead of the usual and more-than-adequate six. All of our slings had been made by my friend, Dr Zipper, and he must have given this one some good juju. It held."
