Greetings, thank you for tuning in. There is a new post for paid subscribers today; an essay about trying to live with an event before becoming the man who could actually do so. Here, on the public side is a simple video, an anecdote, a thank you to Aaron Mulkey for persisting with his invitations to speak at the Wyoming Ice Fest, and to all who attended, who listened, who asked and listened more, and were gracious in their greetings. It was very special to return to a source, a place where I made youthful self-discoveries and might have stayed but for luck and circumstance. I was fortunate to share some time with Erik Weihenmayer again, after not having spoken with each other for close to twenty years, to put faces to names, to give and receive strong, lasting hugs, and to hear some stories about the impact of my words. Of course, no fulfilling human experience would be complete without a slice of humble pie and I got mine, which is the topic of the video.
I will continue to make and post video here, and to develop and grow in that medium because sometimes, hearing works better than reading or at least can drive a casual viewer to the reading. And thinking. Much of the future video will go behind the paywall, although some glib, fun clips might find their way to the Notes section. The point of making this page initially was to learn whether an audience for my writing and ideas existed. Having passed the milestone of 1000 subscribers in less than three months suggests the answer is "Yes". It appears that paid subscriptions could underwrite more writing so I will broadcast words and ideas through a variety of mediums on this platform to steer that direction because, in the words of a young friend who discovered some inspiration and meaning from how I lived my former life, "it wasn't the climbing, although so very rad, it was the voice behind it." The words mattered. They still do. And since we are still here to do so we should learn and grow as much as we can.
