It’s one of those wonderful, though provoking, painful pieces that makes me question myself. Something that triggers a self reflection every once in a while is important, and necessary.
I worry for people who don’t reflect. Don’t ask the question “am I satisfied with what I have done?” It must be exceptionally painful when the realisation of “no, I’ve done fuck all with myself.” hits home.
As we mature, with time rushing through of us, these queries become more important — far more so for me now than when I wrote this piece some years ago. As what’s ahead shortens and what’s behind lengthens we must become ever more aware and efficient … and I struggle with it every day.
If you’d said that to 30, let alone 20, year old me I’d have no understanding of what you’re talking about. Having now passed the 3/4 point that my father and grandfather lived to, it’s painfully relevant.
It's wild to revisit some old writing and ideas across the timeline of growth and change in one's life. This piece reminded me (too) of lessons learned, forgotten, relearned and sometimes re-burned by having imagined I had properly applied a lesson when I hadn't. More to come ...

Of course I’ve read this one before but today it seems to have been put here just for me to see once again…
