well said. living at the highest level of which you are capable leaves a gap on the psyche. nothing can fill that gap, once it is made, except for that experience of life with the volume turned up. It's hard when you're done because you don't exactly who you are without it.

There was perhaps a time when what one did, the activity or pursuit that shaped and made a man, was a lifelong journey, something one did not leave behind. In this era when it is possible and perhaps likely to have multiple careers, across many geographical and social locations, the ‘leaving behind’ issue is common and there are no lessons on managing such significant change. The gap can’t be filled. The pursuit cannot be replaced. But we can grow into the new skin exposed by what we shed and maybe, possibly, someday learn to be comfortable in that skin. And still, we remember.

You seem kind of smart for a guy that was always trying to do things the hard way.😂. I enjoy the jest that climbers and alpinists are always trying to find a harder way to make the climb.
